â– General Cryptocurrency News:
•
One week following Canadian start-up Kik’s announcement that it is
launching a US$5 million crypto initiative to fund a lawsuit against the
United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), a campaign
called DefendCrypto, the SEC announced that it is suing Kik for an
unregistered US$100 million token offering. The commission alleged that
Kik’s digital token sale was not compliant with U.S. securities laws, as it
had not registered the offering with the proper authorities.
•
Tron founder and CEO, Justin Sun, bid US$4.6 million in an eBay charity
auction to have lunch with billionaire investor Warren Buffett, who has
long been known for his negative stance on cryptocurrency.
•
Facebook is rumored to be officially announcing its cryptocurrency project,
a stable coin, via a white paper to be made public later this month. It is
also rumored that Facebook employees will be able to take part of their
salary in the coin.

•
Global peer-to-peer crypto exchange LocalBitcoins officially announced it
will no longer trade in fiat currencies. The official statement cited desire to
comply with the Act on Detecting and Preventing Money Laundering and
Terrorist Financing, which will be required as LocalBitcoins moves to be
monitored by the Financial Supervisory Authority of Finland following the
Finnish government passing new legation for crypto assets earlier this
year.
•
The city of Vancouver is contemplating a ban on Bitcoin ATMs. The mayor
of Vancouver, Kennedy Stewart, has reportedly suggested a complete ban
on Bitcoin ATMs due to money laundering concerns.

After a slow grind sideways for the first three months of 2019, the price of
BTC shot up at the beginning of April.

Positive momentum continued throughout May, before the price pulled
back slightly in June.

The price of BTC traded lower last week, with a sharp drop Monday
followed by stability throughout the week before a slight rebound over the
weekend.

This represents BTC’s second down week in a row, following a very

underperformance versus Bitcoin has resulted in a widening of the gap
between first and second place.

US$142 billion.

After declining in January, the price of ETH has experienced positive
momentum for most of 2019.

The price of Litecoin reached over US$125 today, the highest it has
reached in over a year.
•
This recent price surge resulted in Litecoin regaining fourth position in
terms of largest market capitalizations among cryptocurrencies. Reaching
a current market capitalization of US$7.9 billion, Litecoin surpassed
Bitcoin Cash at US$7.0 billion and now sits behind only Bitcoin at US$142
billion, Ether at US$26 billion, and XRP at US$17 billion.

Having started 2019 as a relative outperformer in comparison to other
major cryptocurrencies, LTC has lost some momentum in April and May
before regaining ground last week.
